Audi Q7 wheel arch repair in Leicester

Audi Q7 wheel arch repair in Leicester on owners drive. Big cars often make it difficult for the driver to see  all four corners while maneuvering. This was the case here and the result was an area of damage that included both the front bumper and the front wing.

As with most jobs the secret is to get the preparation right, so much time is spent filling and flatting prior to adding primer, paint and lacquer.

The end result, a repair that is indistinguishable from the original paintwork.

If this has happened to you, why not call Peter on 07830 36 46 86 for a chat.

Silver Honda Jazz wheel arch repair

Silver Honda Jazz wheel arch repair carried out by Peter Stevenson. ChipsAway (PDS) owner Peter was invited to look at a nasty scuff on the near side front wheel arch on a silver Honda Jazz. Despite the colour and the fact that the damage extends into the front wing, Peter was more than happy to undertake the repair and the Customer was more than happy with the result and the cost. They were especially happy with the fact that the repair was carried out on the drive at home in a few hours, so there was no need for delivery to a workshop and relying on family and friends for travel for the days a conventional repair would take.

Lexus IS200 TTE Bumper and Lip Spoiler paint repair

Lexus IS200 TTE Bumper and Lip Spoiler paint repair by Peter of ChipsAway in Leicester. There is a fashion for white cars these days, but 10 years ago Lexus introduced a 3 coat pearle white called Riviera White. On a dull day, it looks white, but in the sunshine it has a wonderful depth to it due to the extra pearle coat. Following a coming together with a bollard the rear bumper was distorted and the paint crazed. You can see the damage in the first photo. To ensure the repair would last, Peter set about the crazing with a demel grinder to open out the cracks prior to filling and painting. At this stage (second photo) the owner was near to tears as the area looks so much worse than at the start.

As you can see in the third photo the end result was very good.

As the lip spoiler had started to split above one of the fixing bolts, Peter ground out, then filled this area as well, then painted it to match.

How long does a repair take?

How long does a repair take?

People oftern want to know how long a repair will take. Sometimes it is because they have waved a spray can over a repair in the past and think it takes minutes, some think Peter has a magic wand so here are a few examples of work Peter has carried out over the last few months:

Porsche Boxster rear bumper – standard repair that requires extra work to blend the edges of the repair as there are no ‘natural’ edges – about 3 – 4 hours

Vauxhall Corsa rear wheel arch – no issues here, though sometimes their Starsilver can be a pain – about 2 – 3 hours

Honda CRV front bumper – this sort of repair can take a long time as you ease the bumper back into shape – about 5 – 7 hours

Ford Ka rear quarter panel – repair depends very much on the amount of damage – this one took about 4 hours

Toyota MR2 front bumper – due to the age of the car there was a lot of crazing to paint – about 3 – 4 hours

VW Passat door handle – about 2 hours

Mercedes SLK rear bumper – straight forward repair – about 2 – 3 hours

Toyota Avensis rear bumper – well controlled area and a ‘good’ colour – about 2 – 3 hours

MR2 nose repair by ChipsAway (PDS) Ltd

MR2 nose repair by ChipsAway (PDS) Ltd. Reversing out of the garage one day the nose of a Toyota MR2 came into contact with the door resulting in a scuff and also the losening of lacquer around the damage. As an ‘older’ car the paint on plastic panels will often lift resulting in the need for a much bigger repair.

The first job for Peter was to remove lacquer until a solid base was reached. The whole area was then stabilised with a coat of primer. After this a thin skim of filler was applied to restore the levels. After sanding to create a smooth level surface the whole area was primed again so that the paint had a good base. Paint and laqcuer were then added and after baking, polished to a high gloss.

Mercedes SLK

Mercedes SLK bumper scuff repaired by Peter at ChipsAway (PDS) Ltd. When Helen decided to treat herself to her dream car the car she choose was a lovely silver Mercedes SLK. Everyone thought it was just the car for her, so when her Mum moved the car on the drive to get her own out there was a sudden silence as the rear bumper came into contact with the gate post.

Having used Peter on a company car some time before, Helen did not hesitate in contacting Peter this time. Having mixed the correct shade of silver, the area was prepared with a little filler and a coat of primer. A few coats of Aquaclear water based paint and the area was ready to receive a couple of coats of lacquer which was then baked. A light polish brought the finish back to as new and everyone was happy.

If this sort of thing has happened to you, why not call Peter on 07830 36 46 86 and see if he can help.

It’s a very small world

It’s a very small world. When Peter went to see Tom to quote on some damage to his 08 plate Honda Civic it was clear Tom was not a local. Though there may be 20 years between them, at one time they lived within 4 or 5 miles of each other in Newcastle and went to the same Heaton Grammar School ( http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/hgshhs/hgs/  for information).

The repair went well, but the best part was chatting about some of the changes, old and new that have taken place over the years.
