Good paint match and high gloss finish was assured by good preparation and accurate measurement of the ten tints and binders needed to mix this version of Cubanite Silver, a very pale gold colour and one of the 30 or so light and mid silver colours in the Mercedes colour list. Many of these have 3 or more “alternatives” the real reason many cars can be seen driving round with “odd” coloured bumpers etc. So if you are about to try a bit of DIY make sure you get the right one and the right alternative. Peter of ChipsAway (PDS) was called to a loyal business Customer to restore an ice blue metallic Audi A4 Cabriolet which was suffering from a very bad case of neglect. All four bumper corners and wheel arches needed attention along with a number of other bits of damage.

Though the repairs took a whole day to complete the end result was 1st class according to the company vehicle Manager. This type of repair, where there are many areas requiring work, is typical of those where, rather than price the individual areas Peter took on the work on a day rate. This is often the case with local businesses when Peter is brought in for a full day when there is a gathering of company car drivers. Jeep bumper scuff in Leicester LE3 needs the attention of Peter of ChipsAway (PDS) to get it looking its best again. A rear bumper scuff on a dark blue Jeep was the result of a small accident with a post and needed to be repaired. After preparing the area, Peter mixed the correct varriant of the Midnight Blue paint. A small amount of filler was needed to bring the levels back followed by a coat of primer to ensure the best result.

A few coatsd of the dark blue paint return the bumper corner to its true colour and a couple of coats of lacquer ensure a full gloss result.

Red Renault bumper scuff back in the Piink. Peter was called to carry out a repair in Lutterworth for estate agents Piink.co.uk (that’s right double “i”). Although the job was to repair a scuff to the front bumber, while cleaning the car Mark found another area on the rear bumper that needed his attention. As with most situations the second area can be repaired for about half price as the paint is mixed and the mobile workshop does not need to be set up a second time.

Paint scuff in Lubenham near Market Harborough. Peter was called in after a satisfied customer recommended him to a friend. As a result he is working on a nice pale blue Alfa which was damaged by a faulty car park barrier that came down and damaged the “A” pillar.

Though an unusual area to repair Peter was confident the repair would be to his usual high standard. From Peters point of view it has the added advantage that the repair can be carried out while standing, a nice change from spending his working day on his knees.

Plastic bumper repair in Braunston Town by Peter of ChipsAway (PDS). After a rear end bump the silver paint on the plastic bumper needed Peters attention. After the other driver did a runner this Customer was left with a sad looking rear bumper on their Moondust Silver Ford Focus and did not feel inclined to go through their insurance company, what with excesses and the threat of increased premiums so they called Peter at ChipsAway (PDS) for his help (07830 36 46 860).

Peter arrived on time and set up to carry out the repair. After preparing the panel the damaged area was filled with a suitable filler and after flatting back the area was primed. Peter mixed the colour using the AquaClear paint system and applied a few coats each of which was dried.

Two coats of clear lacquer was then applied and baked hard. Due to the high quality of the lacquer, minimal finishing was required prior to the final polish.

Paint damage restored in Knighton by ChipsAway (PDS) Ltd. Peter spent this morning working on a nice people carrier suffering from the effects of an enthusiastic gardener. Who remembers the nice dry summer days we had earlier in the year? Well on one of these rare days a gardened took advantage of the pause in the rain to use their new fence spraying gadget. Now let me start by saying that the fence looks good.

BUT one of the things they do not make so clear on the wonderful TV ads, is that the fine brown droplets have a tendancy to drift and, you guessed it, there was this nice pale blue people carrier in the line of fire.

Not wishing to let their partner see the damage they set about removing the many brown spots even though it had now started to rain. As the usual cleaning kit did not seem to be doing the business a trip to the kitchen resulted in a hand clutching a non-stick pan scourer. While the car was still wet the result looked good,but when the sun came out the high gloss finish had been reduced to an ‘interesting’ mat finish.

Armed with a range of tools and finishing products the car looked better than new 4 to 5 hours later and the value of the car was restored with the gloss of the the paintwork and no one need ever know,especially the salesman who values the car at trade in. All for a lot less than a full re-spray.
