Washing the Car

Washing the Car

Wash the vehicle every week. Choose a place or time of day when the vehicle will not be in full sun. Use one of the many Wash and Wax products. With a clean sponge apply clean water all over the vehicle starting at the top. This will loosen the dirt and give you a chance to find any bird lime or other unusual deposits. Spot treat any areas that need it with extra water or a specialist cleaner. Dilute the wash/wax product as directed with clean water and wash the whole vehicle starting with the roof and working down. Don’t forget to clean inside the door openings. Rinse off all the product with clean warm water and leather dry. Stand back and admire.

PLEASE NOTE – If you drop the sponge, or any cloths or leathers STOP. Find a clean one or wash the dropped one (not in the bucket you are using to clean the car!) and continue. You WILL have picked up a piece of grit and it WILL scratch the car!

Mini One paint repairs

Mini One paint repairs. If you are prepared to get the work done yourself there are savings to be made. Having bought a silver Mini One at a knock down price because the trader could not be bothered to get various dents and scuffs repaired before the sale. After a scary quote from the dealer to replace bonnet, roof and wheels, Peter was called in to deal with the wheels and paint and Dent-technique ( http://www.dent-technique.co.uk/ ) to sort out the dents. The dents were sorted first and Peter spent a day working on the paintwork and wheels. From the Customers point of view some scratches on the bonnet were the most important and Peter was able to apply some techniques to reduce them to such an extent that they were almost impossible to find. After the other areas were dealt with and 3 alloy wheels repaired. For the cost of a new bonnet the whole of the outside of the car was up to standard of a well cared for car and its value was well above the price paid. So not only can Peter at ChipsAway (PDS) save you time, he can also save you money. The pictures above are of the most obvious scratch on the bonnet and the end result. It does not show up very well, but I would be happytpmail you a copy of the larger size pictures.

Wash Leather

Wash Leather

Leather, that’s wash leather and for most of us it doesn’t really matter if it is natural or synthetic. The most important thing is to keep it clean and only use it to remover clean water from the paintwork, not to clean the little bits you missed with the sponge and soapy water.

Bird Lime

Bird Lime

Bird Lime – deposits vary by the season, depending on what is available for the bird to eat, by general diet, different birds eat different types of food and by size.

Rule One – remove as soon as possible, certainly within 24 hours, using a water spray to soften and loosen the deposit and only use a damp cloth (or paper towel) once all the deposit is free of the painted surface.

Rule Two – NEVER be tempted to scrape off a dry deposit, or to scrub it off with a damp cloth or sponge.

Alloy Wheel repair in Leicester

Alloy wheel repair in Leicester. It has happened to many of us, the high kerb we did not notice or the driver in the middle of the road we have to avoid. We get home and find one of our nice alloy wheels has been scuffed and it spoils the look of the whole car. For us in the UK the first one to get damaged is usually the near side front, and this was the case on this nice Ford Fiesta. After a clean and de-grease the high spots were leveled and the low spots filled with a special filler. The whole area was then flatted with 1500 grit wet and dry paper on a backing block. A few coats of paint over the primer followed by ChipsAways Aquaclear lacquer and a good long bake (especially in this cold weather) and all that is needed is a light polish and the car looks its best again.

Bumper Scuff repair in Leicester Forest East

Bumper Scuff repair in Leicester Forest East. The best sort of advertising is word of mouth, so when a recent Customer asked me to contact one of their friends, Peter arranged to call round where he found a nice Audi A3 with a nasty front bumper scuff. A date was agreed for the work to be done and Peter turned up on time to carry out the work. The Mauritius Blue was mixed and applied over the primer followed by 2 coats  of ChipsAway lacquer, which when baked not only protects, but imparts a high shine after a light polish.

Asda Thurmaston car park bay

Asda Thurmaston car park bay. Second use of the tape.

230cm wide x 490 long.

I was parked at the end of a row and the last bay was actually 6cm wider, a help with the van or if you need access to both sides of the car.

Junction Road Car Park Wigston

Junction Road Car Park Wigston. The one behind the shops and near the library. Called here to go to the bank to find it was closed. Bought a tape and measured my first parking space.

225cm wide x 490cm long inside the white lines. Here they are very worn, but next one was 10cm wide so you could argue the space is actually 235cm wide if you include half a width at each side.
