Bird lime update – early removal is best.

Bird lime update – early removal is best.

I don’t know anyone who carries a full water mister in their car ready to remove bird lime so I have been trying other options. The answer was really easy, it just took a lateral jump.

Keep a small pack of baby wipes in the glove box. These are designed to remove similar stuff. I have tried a few brands and they all work the same, so go for the basics type. Catch the problem early while still soft if possible, but if not fold a wipe and place over the deposit and after a few minutes it can be lifted off. If this does not have the desired effect check out the full report below when you have access to clean water.

I have not found any paint issues with the wipes, but perhaps it’s wise to clean the area as normal as soon as you can afterwards.

Smart repair in Leicester, Avensis bumper.

Smart repair in Leicester, Avensis bumper. At the end of the lease this black Toyota Avensis was in first class condition except for a scuff on the N/S/R bumper corner. After finding this web site a call was placed to Peter who was able to fix the bumper for a lot less than the lease excess or a visit to the main dealer.

As with many Customers, though the savings were welcome, more important was the fact that Peter came to the office and carried out the repair on site, so no time was lost and no one had to sort out lifts to work / school etc.

Damaged lease car due back soon- what to do next?

Damaged lease car due back soon- what to do next?

After being advised that a charge of £500 would be applied for damage to the wheel arch Peter was contacted to correct the damage. Working on the drive the repair was carried out in about half a day and less than half the cost. If this happens to you then call Peter and see if he can help. Sorry no picture of the damage before the repair.

Hole punched in MX-5 bumper. Can it be fixed?

Hole punched in MX-5 bumper. Can it be fixed? At yesterdays Working Breakfast meeting I showed these pictures and was told it should be on the blog. A fancy bollard punched the hole in the bumper of the Mk3 MX-5.

The hole was filled by welding in a piece of plastic then using filler to bring the levels up. Primer gives a good base for the paint and the lacquer provides protection and the shine.

Call Peter on 07830 36 46 86 and he will always try and help.

I’ve kerbed my alloy wheels, what to do next?

I’ve kerbed my alloy wheels, what to do next? Like most things in life it is usually more difficult (or expensive) to fix a problem after you have suffered from it than it is to prevent it in the first place. In the case of alloy wheels this is not always possible as we get pushed over to a kerb by a driver taking up more than his fair share of the road.

Peter at ChipsAway Leicester has all the kit in his van to deal with most situations where OEM and many aftermarket wheels have been kerbed. Special fillers and primers provide a stable base for the colour coat and ChipsAway lacquer on top to seal the surface. Job done.

So next time it happens to you give Peter a call.

Bumper scuff in Leicester – what to do next.

Bumper scuff in Leicester – what to do next. You get a nice new car and just as you get used to it someone scuffs the bumper while you are at the supermarket. What to do? The main dealer will sell you a paint stick that seems to be designed to make it look worse, or they will sell you a new bumper for many hundreds of pounds. Instead you can call Peter and he will fix it for you, on your drive or at work for less than £150. Now you decide.

Bollards! Plastic bumper repair needed.

Bollards! Plastic bumper repair needed. When a Working Breakfast member caught his bumper on a bollard the air was blue, but the bumper was yellow and it had a very large dent and broken bracket for the driving lamp. After removing the wheel and the wheelarch liner Peter was able to re-shape the bumper and get it back to the correct shape. A little filler was needed to get it just so then primer, paint and lacquer had the outside looking as good as new.

Some resin and glass mat repaired the bracket so the lamp could be aligned again and all was well. If this has happened to you, give Peter a call and see if he can help.
