New Corsa typical damage? This is what Peter found when he was asked to look at a new Vauxhall Corsa. The rear bumper had been damaged while parked and needed repair. Peter was able to carry out the repair with minimum disruption at the Customers place of work in only a few hours.

As a result they were able to come to work in the usual way and the repair was completed in plenty of time to allow the return journey to be made as normal. On top of that the price was lower than a local bodyshop had quoted.

It wasn’t me, honest!

This is something Peter hears 2 or 3 times a week and often the damage could have been caused by either party.

One giveaway is when there is still brick dust embedded in the paint, walls do not usually wander past cars. Coping stones on the top of low garden walls that are the same height as the damage are another clue, as is the protruding hinge on an old gate post.

The classic ‘W’ on a door is a good sign that someone has opened their car door onto yours and then slid along the seat and got out of the car, the ‘W’ formed by movement up and down on the suspension.

A mysterious ‘comet tail’ collection of  small indentations over and area about the size of a hens egg, was probably caused by some idiot with an egg. When thrown at a solid surface the shell collapses and the sharp edges cut into the paintwork.

MR2 nose repair by ChipsAway (PDS) Ltd. Reversing out of the garage one day the nose of a Toyota MR2 came into contact with the door resulting in a scuff and also the losening of lacquer around the damage. As an ‘older’ car the paint on plastic panels will often lift resulting in the need for a much bigger repair.

The first job for Peter was to remove lacquer until a solid base was reached. The whole area was then stabilised with a coat of primer. After this a thin skim of filler was applied to restore the levels. After sanding to create a smooth level surface the whole area was primed again so that the paint had a good base. Paint and laqcuer were then added and after baking, polished to a high gloss.

Lease end Audi Q7 needs Peters attention. When his company car was due for return, Paul asked around friends as how best to avoid the high cost the lease company were going to charge for the damage. As well as a couple of bumper scuffs, there was also a ‘key’ scratch to the nearside front wing. The company advised this would cost in excess of £1000 if left to the lease company, but a friend had used Peter of ChipsAway (PDS) in Leicester before so he was called in to quote. At well under half the cost, and less inconvenience, Peter was booked.

The end result was as good as the Audi paintwork and invisible to the naked eye. Completed in less than a day the vehicle was fit to use straight away.
