Does Size Matter?

Does Size Matter? Peter sees cars that have been damaged in most of the Supermarket car parks in and around the City with the one exception, the new John Lewis car park.

Is this because the spaces are getting smaller, cars are getting bigger or drivers take less care?

Does colour matter?

Does colour matter? Over the last few weeks Peter has repaired more Black cars than ever before.

Most Black cars these days are metallics and pearls. Names like Obsidian and Sapphire are the order of the day, but they are all blacks of one shade or another. Often with 12 or more tints these are complex colours, but ChipsAway Aquaclear system allows Peter to get a perfect match even though most manufacturers have 10 to 20 shades of there own!

So what do you think? Does it matter what colour your car is? Do some colours attract more damage?

Bumper Scuff repair in Leicester Forest East

Bumper Scuff repair in Leicester Forest East. The best sort of advertising is word of mouth, so when a recent Customer asked me to contact one of their friends, Peter arranged to call round where he found a nice Audi A3 with a nasty front bumper scuff. A date was agreed for the work to be done and Peter turned up on time to carry out the work. The Mauritius Blue was mixed and applied over the primer followed by 2 coats  of ChipsAway lacquer, which when baked not only protects, but imparts a high shine after a light polish.

Toyota bumper scuffs in LE3

Toyota bumper scuffs in LE3. Peter at ChipsAway (PDS) Leicester was called in to repair 3 bumper scuffs on a silver Toyota Auris. Typical examples of the damage found after a visit to the local supermarket or in the office carpark, this type of damage is often taken back to the main dealer for repair. The usual reply is that the bumper needs to be replaced because plastic panels are not suitable for repainting (forgetting to tell you they have to paint the bumper anyway as they usually come to the dealer in the un-painted condition). There are thousands of repaired plastic panels out there many with 2 year ChipsAway warranties that prove that is not the case. Recent examples in Peters area show that a replacement bumper is going to cost the owner in the region of £700 to £800 plus VAT while a typical bumper scuff repair by Peter will cost well under £200 including the VAT. The fact that Customers call Peter back for other damage and recommend him to family and friends does demonstrate that his Customers are very happy with his work. It is often not even the money saving that is important, it is the fact that the repair is usually done in a day, on your drive or at work, so no need to sort out lifts to work etc.

Bumper scuff repairs in Clarendon Park

Bumper scuff repairs in Clarendon Park, LE2. Are Peters standards too high? Peter was called to look at a damaged bumper on a Honda Civic and as well as 2 areas that needed repair it was pointed out that the rear bumper had been repaired before in another town and one area was showing as a variation in colour (Cosmic Grey has a number of alternatives). As the earlier repair was close to one of the new repairs, Peter agreed to improve the earlier repair as an act of good will. Once preparation of the rear bumper was started it was clear that the earlier repair was not to the highest standard and Peter made the decision to carry out a much larger repair, in part because a good repair by Peter would highlight the poor quality earlier one.

Red bumper scuff repair in LE4

Red bumper scuff repair in LE4. Peter gets called out to fix a bumper scuff on a Pepper Red Ford Focus and it starts to rain! So it is up with the ChipsAway marquee to protect the car (and Peter) and it is on with the job in hand. This nice pearl red is, as most red and orange colours, known as a “low hider.” So although there are a dozen components to the colour it is Peters talents that help get the best possible results. One way to help is to make sure that there is as little variation between the base and the top coats, so in this case a coloured primer is used. This is followed by a few coats of the correct colour paint followed by two coats of lacquer. A good polish and the job is ready for the Customer.

SLK bumper scuff in Kirby Muxlow. A nearly new Mercedes SLK suffered a slight bumper scuff in a local carpark leaving the lady owner broken hearted. After a quick Google for Bumper scuffs Peter was called in to sort it out. Though difficult to see in the photo, the area, right at the front, was in clear view every time the owner walked up to the car on the drive.

After a couple of hours or so Peter has the car looking it’s best and the car can be driven with pride once again.

Bumper scuff repair in LE4

Bumper scuff repair in LE4. Peter repaired a damaged bumper in LE4 on a Chrysler Neon. This Sage Green Neon had typical damage to the rear bumper usually the result of a careless driver squeezing out of the supermarket car park slot next to you. Sad but true, very few people who cause this sort of damage do more than look around to see if they have been seen, or caught on the CCTV. By making sure the correct version of the colour was used the end result was invisible and the Customer was very happy with the result.
